Individual Modality (IDA)

In this event, an individual swimmer crosses the Río de la Plata from a starting point in Argentina to a finishing point in Uruguay. The distance can vary depending on the exact conditions of the day, but is typically between 40/42 km.

 

Group Modality

The group mode allows up to four swimmers to cross simultaneously, as long as they maintain a constant swimming pace throughout the crossing. Swimmers must start and finish together, ensuring perfect coordination between them. This mode encourages teamwork and synchronization, with each member supporting and motivating the others to achieve the common goal. Maintaining the same pace is essential for the safety and success of the crossing.

Relay Modality

In relay swimming, a team of swimmers takes turns completing the crossing. Each team member swims a section of the course before taking over for another swimmer. Teams typically consist of 2 to 6 swimmers, depending on the specific rules of the event.

First refreshment: The association recommends that the first refreshment be carried out approximately one hour after starting the crossing. This initial time allows the swimmer to establish a rhythm and adapt to the water conditions.

Post-refreshment stops: After the first refreshment stop, it is recommended to stop for hydration and nutrition every 45 to 30 minutes. This interval helps maintain energy and fluid levels without significantly affecting the pace of the swim.
Duration of stops: Hydration stops should be short, lasting no more than 1 minute. This is enough time to take in the necessary fluids and solids without losing pace or getting sidetracked by currents.
